Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters) commissioned this image for the cover of his monumental work, The Essence of the Bhagavad-Gita.
Instead of a traditional picture of Krishna on the chariot, Swamiji requested a depiction of the 'Divine Vision'—the moment when Krishna, as Lord of the Infinite, reveals his infinite form to Arjuna his disciple. In this vision we see the shining worlds flowing forth. From the Divine fount myriad forms emerge and evolve. Planets and stars float on rivulets of time and space. This is the moment in the lives of all devotees when we glimpse the vastness of creation and its source in the cosmic beloved.
The BACK of the card reads:
"Out of pure compassion - I, the Divine One who dwells in all, - set alight in their hearts - the blazing lamp of wisdom - which banishes their darkness of Ignorance." Chapter 23 verse 10:11.
